The Forgotten Ones of the Messerschmitt Plant

This fake Tintin album cover was derived from a drawing I did circa 1989 and scanned. I had to rework it digitally and expand it to make it look like an actual cover. The factory pipes and containers in the back of the picture are from Blake and Mortimer comic illustrations by Edgar P. Jacobs — a lifelong Hergé friend and associate who was also helping on Tintin at the time.

The ominous Müller (a regular baddie in the Tintin albums) was part of my storyline, as well as former French Communist party leader Georges Marchais, who indeed worked at Messerschmitt during the war.

Each of the characters was redrawn from existing panels... except for Marchais, whom I tried to turn into a cartoon character...

The plot dealt with the plant of the German aircraft manufacturer and project P.1101 — a jet aircraft that was later reworked in the US as the swept-wing Bell X-5.
