In the 1950s, the French minister of Defense came up with the strange idea that the Armée de l'Air ought to take the best from every experimental prototype around and create a composite aircraft that would serve as the basis for their future fighter/bomber. Thus was born the SNCASO (aka "Sud-Ouest") SO-9200 Gorgone.

The Gorgone is a mash-up of several post-war French jet prototypes.
