Synopsis: The little-known Mikoyan-Gurevich 1.22 was a proposal for a short-range fighter used to protect aircraft carriers from possible attacks. High-angle-of-attack manoeuvers were required, as well as contained proportions. The "Frisky", as NATO codenamed it, was an early victim of perestroika, when the threat of enemy attacks on Soviet boats suddenly seemed more distant and military budgets were melting fast. Only one prototype was built.
