Synopsis:
The Fairchild Republic YA-10F Thunderhog was an experiment consisting in adding a third engine to the Fairchild A-10 with the purpose of giving the aircraft more power to climb out of a raiding theater much faster. The extra engine was not operated at all times, only when needed. The experiment must have been pretty inconclusive since the "Thunderhog", as pilots dubbed it, was soon heard of no more. Elaboration: Nothing much here... just a Fairchild "Warthog" with three engines instead of two. Not sure that wouldn't seriously offset the center of gravity and impair the flight characteristics, but hey! it looks darn cool! I guess I could have shared the original picture here, but it's really easy to figure it out yourself... just remove the middle engine, and you're there! Viewers' comments: My comments: |
